Correcting Errors, Getting Records, Will it Improve? WHEN?

Posted by James Jett on January 25, 2010

If you applied for benefits or service from the Veterans Administration anytime in the pass and you are still waiting, for the next second fill good about it, because you are a Veteran, treated like all the rest of us. Just to cover one person, I have two Honorable Discharges and volunteered for combat with the 187th Airborne, in the Korean War, yet for the last five years, the VA (Veterans Administrations) has sometime treated me like a dog. In fact, when I discuss with my associates, the treatment veterans receive, compare  it with animals, there is more restriction and delays in treating veterans than treating pets. When I look at my personal records, the only branch I give an A+, to, is all the nurses and doctors in the examination and  treatment process.  And yes, I include all the supporting staff involved in the treatment process. Why such high rating? When I receive yeoman treatment, I am not afraid to report it!
When I took my stress test ordered by my private doctor, the doctor overseeing the test told me he had given a couple of the Cleveland Brown players the same test. About two years later I took my stress test at the VA Medical Center. Both, the private and the VA Test show that I am in good health.
Where I have suffered, and I do mean suffered, is getting my records, and application for benefits being delayed or denied because I cannot get my  records, both personal and medical. More than fifty years ago I asked for my medical records and  they told me, they didn’t exist. About two years ago someone working on my claim read from a copy of my Army Medical Records. I applied for a copy and receive a form to fill out that would help in conducting a search for my Army Medical Records. I ask for my Navel Reserve records received them in two weeks. Now I have a medical record that proves I had no problem with my eyes when I enlisted in the Army Airborne and served three years and four days.
As I lived my life, seeing  my doctors and using the hospital when needed, things begin to go wrong. Someone, or some group or team of persons has decided to ether do me harm or cost me money by making sure I do not receive my benefits.
Examples, I had to pay $500. for three nights’ stay in the hospital because someone changed my records or send in incorrect information to Atlanta, GA. Before I could get that corrected, someone changed or deleted information from my records, that showed that I had served in the Naval Reserve two years, and the Army three years including combat in the Korean War. All this information on a copy of my DD-214 that everyone must send before they can receive treatment at a VA hospital.
When I reported for my follow-up, after my stay in the hospital, they told me I was not eligible to receive treatment at that hospital. I immediately went to the Eligibility Officer’s office and she told me to talk with Patient Representative. At the Stokes VA Medical Center, everyone including the Veteran Organizations told me that this woman is the Apex, and knows what a veteran should do to get medical service they need. Next, I went to see a Patient Representative and immediately, he started the process to get my files back in the systems. Twice, I have met with a Patient Representative and they prove that they are ready to help a veteran. My hospital medical records have been restored, and again, I can go to a VA medical facility any place in the world and receive treatment for my health needs.

Applications: VA Forms 21-527,21-4142,21-8416,21-4138

Posted by James Jett on October 31, 2007

Well, I finally mailed all the forms in my application for compensation benefits for eye injury. In addition I am claiming more condition, since I applied for benefits on February 11, 1955 and the appeal period has expired and the decision was last. If I want the issues reconsider, I need to offer new material evidence. To qualify as new, the material  submitted to the VA for the first time, to be considered as “material evidence” it must relate to a established fact. The new and material evidence, considered with the evidence on record must raise a reasonable possibility that the conclusion will change.

With this information, I gather doctor reports about my medical conditions and the treatments provided for those conditions. It seems to me, my doctor visits clearly points out the facts that I went in the Naval Reserve, and the Army Airborne a healthy man and came out with slowly declining health. Because I had the best medical insurance at my places of employment, I received the proper treatments for my sicknesses. Now my insurance cost has skyrocketed and my income declined because a pension that should pay $500. Per month, now pay $12.40 per month! For this reason I enrolled in the VA Health Care Programs, enabling me to get treatment and medicine I need without going deeper in debt.

With my health condition, I applied for everything that health and income needs dictated, and will await the decision. To claim a non service-connected pensions I completed VA Form 21-527, most of that information is readily available on your 1099R, SSA-1099 and your current income tax statements. VA Form 21-4142 is where you list each visit to the doctor, hospital or clinic, using a form for each treatment. On VA Form 21-8416, I recorded all medical expenses all the way back to (in my case April 16, 2006) because that is the date I made my first application. These expenses, both,  medical and drug bills’ insurance did not pay. Example: health insurance, including Medicare; in addition private medical insurance, co-pay and deductibles. Once  completed, write a good statement supporting your claims. Make sure you sign everything requiring a signature. The last thing I had to complete was the Direct Deposit Information: Things like: Checking or Saving Account, Account Number, Name of financial institution and (last but important) Routing or Transit Number

Burial Place

Posted by James Jett on January 20, 2007

Two national cemetery and one state cemetery located in Ohio. The state cemetery, Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery located in Sandusky, Ohio and the National cemetery, Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery located in Rittman, Ohio and the other one, Dayton National Cemetery, located in Dayton, Ohio. Pictured above is our first course, we can change our minds once we visit the sites. Presently, all information is word-of-mouth and Web Site information. Both national cemeteries have space available to accommodate caskets and cremated remains.

Yes issues! always issues, so let me state up front, I believe this country is suffering from a heavy load of political correctness, at the same time trying to be both fair and just. Therefore when I apply for any benefit I make sure I know the rules by which I can qualify. Now I will be mindful of the wife and children that is without food and clothes, because the veteran died and she is unable to work.

My plans are to work with some of the veteran groups, in Ohio I met a group of Rakkasans (Paratroopers) they asked me to join the organization, maybe I will, if their concerns are the benefits, due veterans and their love ones. With the slow, but show progress I am making in my effort to restore my records, my needs are very few. The medical report last months from all my doctors are excellence. The same is true of my wife, we could both live for another twenty years, and will need exercise and healthy food, to stay active and mobile. To that end, I am in training, to fight Sugar Ray or Mike Tyson. I will take Mike, Sugar Ray hit you to many time in each round. Maybe I will post my picture in a boxing outfit this year, in honor of Veterans Day.
